0178 - Going Native - Part XI (Down at the Motor Pool)

1230 24 AUG 2000, Krakow, Poland (Hex 17358)

===================================

"Grease and alcohol are what you smell today. Back in the day, it was gas or diesel but that is not the way things are now. If you have any grease, you are one happy mechanic, I can tell you that.

The ORMO guys at the motor pool seemed competent enough are were all busy trying to make the vehicle somehow keep running. Lots of spit and bailing wire being used these days. The few wrecks they did have were literally stripped to the armor plating and some of that was missing too. Nothing was wasted and a couple of feet of wire may be that magical pot of gold you will be looking for out in the boonies when there is a marauder army is rolling down on you. These grease monkeys understood that and nothing was left to waste.

Some service lieutenant led us to our 'parking spot', which confused me. I thought valet parking meant they parked it for you. Anyway, we got there and he, with the help of Wally, explained to us what we needed to do and such. Potato towered over him when he talked about security at the motor pool and I think he got his point across. Still, I would hate to come back to an empty 'parking spot'."

Short post this time.

When we last left our heroes, they had visited the town hall, as a roll of the dice and dumb luck would have it, there was an incident that involved Iov being shot by one of the ORMO troopers by accident. The team managed to save the situation and stabilize Iov before receiving their papers for a week for free in an attempt to make up for the extra hole that they gave Iov. Not a lot but better than taking on the entire Krakow ORMO.

The next stop on the whirlwind "Visit Krakow" tour is one of the battalion motor pools. The closest would be the 221st Battalion, as they are responsible for the northern and eastern approaches to the city (Free City of Krakow, pg. 30). Heavy vehicles and, especially heavy weapons, are banned on the streets of Krakow. As the adventure "Rendezvous in Krakow" states "Visitors are not allowed to bring certain vehicles or weapons into the city. AFVs, towed weapons, mortars, ATGMs, heavy machineguns (such as the M2HB, DShK and KPV) and rocket launchers are prohibited. Light and medium machineguns are allowed, either on vehicle mounts or hand-carried." The Mk-19 on Jerry, Robinson's RPG as well as the KPV and the TOW on the BTR definitely fit into these categories. In addition, the team is running on fumes, so it will probably be best to park both Jerry and the BTR in the motor pool, placing the weapons and such inside the BTR before locking them up.

We can assume that the parking as is covered in the basic costs of staying. It does not really cost the city anything but the team could rent a container that could be locked, but that is not really necessary. The team will secure the vehicles and hope for the best.

The part is not really important except for one simple thing: it provides us with another location that we can return to or one that may be the subject of a remote event. Using the GME, there can be remote are things that happen somewhere else when the characters are not present. For example, a bridge the characters passed over may be blown later. This may affect their travels later. Hopefully their equipment will remain untouched and that is all the team can do at this point. Lock it up and trust the ORMO guards.

With their equipment receipts in hand, the group can make their way back into the city aboard Bad. We close the thread about visiting the motor pool and add the new location. The Chaos Factor remains at 6.

Now the group needs to find a place to stay for the next week. Iov can use the rest and Logan will have some time to patch him up.

Chaos Factor: 6
