0074 - Prisoners and Record Keeping

0630 30 JUL 2000
==============

The sniper that killed Mitchell actually got away. Three others have been killed and three captured, two with slight wounds and one with serious wounds.

First, let's start with the record keeping.

The characters have expended:

  • Fragmentation Grenades: 2
  • 5.56mm N: 14
  • 5.45mm B: 29
  • 9mm P: 4
  • 40mm HEDP: 1
  • Units + oral antibiotic: 3

The stored ammunition and medical supplies are adjusted accordingly.

Harris and Macron process the prisoners and use their individual first aid kits to patch them up. The capture the following material:

  • 3 PPSh-41 with 6 magazines
  • 1 RPK with 3 magazines
  • 1 FN-FAL with 6 magazine
  • 1 Irritant Gas Grenade
  • 1 Thermite Grenade
  • 1 1km Manpack Radio
  • 1 Kevlar Helmet
  • 3kg of Domestic Food
  • 2kg of Soviet Field Rations
  • 1kg of Wild Food
  • 15kg of MREs
In addition, there is the personal equipment from Mitchell that the characters have access to.

The UAZ-469 and the other radio disappear into the sunset with the sniper. No doubt he is on his way back to Kepno to report on the ambush gone wrong.

So, we have three prisoners. What to do with them. Generally I believe that the characters would not necessarily shoot them out of hand. Anyone still around knows the score and just shooting every prisoner you have out of hand is a good way to ensure you will be shot if you are captured. There are extenuating circumstances however.

First you have Logan. Based on the character relationship, Logan and Mitchell were married and he probably would be understandably upset. In addition, we have Marshall. She and Mitchell were good friends before Mitchell married Logan. We have two potential sources of conflict here.

Logan has a critical wound so he is probably not going to jump up and machinegun the prisoners. Marshall is unscathed but the relationship has cooled off somewhat. To determine if anything happens, we can ask the GME. Let's start with Marshall

[GME: Will Marshall attempt to harm the prisoners? - Chaos Rank 6 (the characters definitely lost control of the last scene) - Somewhat Likely (80%) - 78% - Yes]

So Marshall has her blood up. Will she just shoot them?

[GME: Will Marshall shoot the prisoners? - Chaos Rank 6 - Somewhat Likely (80%) - 11% - Exceptional Yes]

Now that is not good. Marshall is determine to do away with them and she is not going to let anyone stop her. Maybe a bit of narrative would help.

"Things went a bit dark after Mitchell was killed. I was pretty sure that whatever happened to them, they deserved it for killin' my friend and probably twice over on top of it.

I don't know what happened exactly. I remember comin't to my senses and Macron. He had tackled me for some reason and I had the L7 in my hand. The barrel was hot and the prisoners were dead. Macron told me I did that, I don't remember it but the bastards killed Caitlyn. That I do remember."

So, we cross off another 20 rounds of 7.62mm N.

Now back to other problems. As we established in Post 0063 - Post-Battle Recovery and Record-Keeping, the OT-64 had been repaired by the mechanic prior to the group arriving but has no ammunition. The vehicle has a wear value of 10, so it is pretty much a junker. Despite that fact, the vehicle may prove useful and no one else knows that it does not have ammunition. After losing Mitchell, the group is probably not disposed to leave the vehicle to the government of Kepno. The characters top off the vehicle and prepare to move out.

The OT-64 is christened "Can-Can" and the 1km Radio is added to allow communications with the team. The team then prepare to move out.

The order of march will be:

  • HMMWV (Jerry) – TOW II
    • Driver: Michael Macron (Ground Vehicle: Wheeled 7, Observation 12)
    • Commander:
    • Gunner: Jade Marshall (Observation 6) - Narrator
    • Passenger:

  • OT-65 (CanCan) – 1000l tank trailer
    • Driver: Eduard Potapenko (Ground Vehicle: Wheeled 5, Autogun 15)
    • Commander: Klasha Kirillovna (Observation 15)
    • Gunner:
    • Passenger: Jack Robinson
    • Passenger: Wayne Logan

  • 3/4-ton truck (Bud) – 1 L7A2s - 1-ton cargo trailer
    • Driver: Michael Griffin (Ground Vehicle: Wheeled 8)
    • Commander/RTO:
    • L7A2 Gunner #1: Edward Harris (Autogun 9, Observation 8)
    • L7A2 Gunner #2:
    • Passenger:

The group then moves off south towards Kluczbork, Poland.

0073 - Post Battle Medical Treatment

"Logan and Mitchell were really shot up. That was bad, as Logan was the medic and Mitchell his assistant. We got to Mitchell and she was non-responsive and passed away after just a few minutes. Logan was bleedin' real bad from his leg. Maybe we could save him but having a medic would have been a great thing at that moment."

We have our first casualty. Mitchell has a critical wound to the head, which will cause her immediate death. Mitchell was the primary mechanic and backup medic.

As combat is ending, Logan makes the percentile roll against his constitution and regains conciousness. He has a slight wound to his abdomen, a scratch wound to his right leg and a critical wound his left leg. He can perform first aid on himself, assisted by someone else (Griffin). We already have one dead, so we will be generous.

[Sabilize Logan's critical wound – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 + 1 (Doctor's medical kit) = 18 – Roll(s): 16] - Success.

Although Logan can stabilize his wound, he will not be able to perform surgery on himself. That will slow the healing process. At least he is out of danger.
We also need to check for infection but none of the wounds become infected.

Potato and Klasha both have fresh wounds and Logan can perform first aid on them without difficulty. The wounds do not become infected.

0072 - Shootout on the Village Square - Turn 4

"The guys were down outside the church. It looked bad but they were still movin' a bit. Thank god for small favors. Bullets were still zippin' around but not really hittin' anyone. I am not complaining, believe me. We had had enough so. Time to take the fight to them and get some payback."

[Fire four rounds at  Elite Polish soldier #1 – Asset Level 5, STR reduced due to serious wound – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 5, four on the last round due to recoil – Roll(s): 17, 8, 3, 6] - One hit. The trooper is hit in the arm for 14 and is knocked down. He is now seriously wounded.

Griffin attempts to throw the grenade down the alley before backing around the corner into cover. The range is 24m (Effective).

[Hit a target with a grenade at effective range – Asset Level 7 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 7 – Roll(s): 14] - Miss, The grenade deviates.

Note: the grenade deviates short and to the right (5) by one meter. That would move the impact point inside the wall, so the grenade instead moves north along the wall. We will consider it a bank shot.

Experienced Polish soldier #6 takes 12 points of damage from concussion and is knocked down. He is in the primary blast radius and takes one fragment to the abdomen for 5 + 1 (Blunt Trauma) = 6 points of damage. He his knocked down and slightly wounded. Griffin is in cover and protected from the concussion and fragments.

Potato will attempt the same feat with a grenade. The range is 32m (Effective).

Both are knocked down and Experienced Polish soldier #7 is seriously wounded.

Logan is in the secondary blast radius and takes no hits.

Veteran Polish soldier #4 loses his turn, as he is knocked down.

Veteran Polish soldier #3 fires two rounds at Mitchell. The range is 75m (Close).

[Fire at Mitchell – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13 – Roll(s): 2,11] - Two hits. Mitchell is prone and facing the shooter. Mitchell is hit in the head (11 + 2 (blunt trauma) = 13 x 2 (head shot) =26) and right arm (19). Mitchell has a critical wound to the head and a serious wound to the right arm. She is also knocked unconscious by the impact.

Macron misses his turn, as his target was knocked down by the grenade blast.

Initiative Step 3

Actions:
• 2LT Jade Marshall will continue to run toward the front of the church
• MAJ Edward Harris will move to the doorway and will fire three rounds at Elite Polish soldier #1
• AGT Sukhikh Klara (Klasha) Kirillovna will bound forward and take cover at the corner of the building
• Experienced Polish soldier #6 misses his turn as he is knocked down
• Experienced Polish soldier #7 misses his turn as he is knocked down

• AGT Sukhikh Klara (Klasha) Kirillovna (AGL 4 - 2 = 2)
• MAJ Edward Harris (AGL 5 - Bulk 5 = 1)

Play:
Marshall continues toward the front of the church.

Klasha runs through the doorway and takes cover at the corner of the building.

Harris fires three times at Elite Polish soldier #1. The range is 30m (Short).

[Fire three rounds at Elite Polish soldier #1 – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13, 12 on the last round due to recoil – Roll(s): 2,14,11] - Two hits. The trooper is hit in the head for 11 x 2 = 22 and the arm for 6 for a total of 17. The hit to the head results in a quick kill.

The patrol has now suffered 86% casualties (3 WIA, 3 KIA). The remaining sniper slinks off as the rest surrender. The encounter is over with the team suffering currently with two critically wounded (Mitchell and Logan), one seriously wounded (Robinson, but to be fair, he was wounded before) and four slight wounded (Griffin, Potato. Harris and Klasha). The difficulty is going to be that the main medic (Logan) is currently bleeding out.

0068 - Shootout on the Village Square - Turn 1

0600 30 JUL 2000
============

"It was a bad situation. A grenade went off and there was a lot of people rockin' and rollin' for that early in the morning. We had people down in the open and no idea how to get them back into cover. We needed to take the fight to them instead of playin' pop-up target."

Although the patrol leader likes a good fight, they are not stupid. The standard morale rules apply and their relative breakpoints are:

• Retreat: 46% Casualties
• Rout: 59% Casualties
• Surrender: 73% Casualties

Initiative Step 5

Actions:
• MSG Caitlyn Mitchell will drop prone and fire a 40mm grenade at the RPK gunner
• MSG Eduard Lyubomyrovych Potapenko misses his turn, as he was knocked down
• SSG Michael Griffin will run to the door where Klasha was standing guard
• Elite Polish soldier #1 will put five single rounds into Logan

Order of Actions

• MSG Caitlyn Mitchell (AGL 5)

Veteran Polish soldier #3 is protected from concussion and fragments by the building.

Potato is knocked down and still suffering from Panic and will miss his turn.

Elite Polish soldier #1 fires five single rounds at Logan. The range is 15m (Short).

All head, arms and chest hits will miss. The hits are taken to the Left Leg (4), Abdomen (3 + 1 for blunt trauma), Chest (Miss), Abdomen (3 + 1 for blunt trauma), Right Arm (Miss). Logan is knocked down again and now as a slight wound to his abdomen.

Note: one can debate whether a bullet hitting a prone target from behind would hit the Kevlar vest. I won't debate it but I would just say that it is a game and there are enough ways to kill a character without nitpicking and debating reality. Let them have the advantage where possible.

Initiative Step 4

Actions:
• SSG Micheal Macron will run past Marshall and attempt to flank the attackers.
• Veteran Polish soldier #2 will miss his turn, as he was knocked down.

[Fire five single rounds at Potato – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13 – Roll(s): 15,19,12,17,19] - One possible hit. Potato is prone and facing away from the shooter. All head, arms and chest hits will miss. The round hits Potato in the abdomen for (2 +1 Blunt Trauma) 3 points of damage. This results in a scratch wound for Potato.

Veteran Polish soldier #5 goes prone and fire two rounds at Klasha. The range is 35m (Close).

[Fire two rounds at Klasha – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13 – Roll(s): 18,2] - One possible hit (Outstanding Success). Klasha is prone and facing away from the shooter. All head, arms and chest hits will miss. The hit location is the right arm, resulting in a miss. Klasha got lucky that time.

Veteran Polish soldier #3 fires two rounds at Mitchell. The first will count as aimed, as he was on overwatch. The range is 75m (Close).

[Fire first round at Mitchell – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 16 – Roll(s): 18] - Miss. Despite aiming and being on overwatch, the shot misses.

[Fire first round at Mitchell – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13 – Roll(s): 12] - Possible hit. Mitchell is prone and facing the shooter. All leg and abdomen hits will miss. The hit location is the left leg, resulting in a miss.

0066 - Shootout on the Village Square - The Ambush

0600 30 JUL 2000
=============

"It was one of those days when you wake up to gunfire. Not an ideal way to wake up, regardless of the day. It was Friday and this is not how I imagined my TGIF weekend party starting but that party was starting, with or without me. No one invited me to the dance but I woke up in the middle of it."

So, the patrol wants to kill (and maybe capture) the party. Since they have no night vision, it is going to have to be an early morning attack. To be fair, we should give the characters a chance to detect their observers.

We will go the standard detection roll. The highest observation for the characters is 15 (Klasha). The characters are not moving and have two vehicles (we will not count the OT-64, as it does not belong to the characters) and nine troopers. This is a total of -19 (-10 for the vehicles and -9 for the characters).

The patrol is assumed to be not moving when observing the group. There are seven troopers and one vehicle for a total modification of -12. The patrol has an observation asset of 16.

The players have a total modification of -19 (own modification) +12 (Enemy modification) = -7. The patrol has a modification of -12 (own modification) + 19  (party modification) = +7.

After the  modification, the players have an effective asset of 9 and the patrol has an effective asset of 23. Neither asset has been reduced by more than half nor increased by more than half, so we are OK. The difficulty level is set at Difficult.

[Detect the patrol watching the group – Asset Level 9 – Difficult  (x1) – Target Number 9 – Roll(s): 18] - The group fails to detect the patrol observing them.

[Detect the character group sheltering in the village – Asset Level 23 – Difficult  (x1) – Target Number 19 (a 20 will always fail)  – Roll(s): 18] - The patrol as found the characters.

Since the patrol won the surprise roll, they will allowed to move into position. At 0600, the characters are involved involved in different activities.
  • 2LT Jade Marshall - On guard duty
  • 2LT Wayne Logan - preparing to gather plant material
  • SSG Michael Griffin -  preparing to Hunt/Forage
  • MAJ Edward Harris - resting after his guard shift
  • MSG Caitlyn Mitchell - preparing to gather plant material
  • MSG Eduard Lyubomyrovych Potapenko - On guard duty
  • SFC Jack Robinson - preparing to gather plant material
  • SSG Micheal Macron -  preparing to Hunt/Forage
  • AGT Sukhikh Klara (Klasha) Karillovna - On guard duty

Harris is asleep inside the ruins of the bell tower. Marshall, Klasha and Potato have taken up positions around the perimeter of the church. Logan and Mitchell will gather plant material for making alcohol. Griff and Macron are in the church, preparing for a hunting trip. Robinson is resting in the church.

Griffin, Harris and Klasha now have slight wounds. Robinson still has a serious wound because of the infection.

So, as I mentioned before, the patrol has gotten the drop on the characters. Their intention is to fire up the group and maybe capture a couple of prisoners to interrogate. As they have surprise, they choose to ambush the characters. As a result, the will get on free rounds of attack.

Initiative Step 5

Actions:
  • Elite Polish soldier #1 will trot forward and take cover behind the burnt-out trucks before firing a burst at Logan.

Order of Actions:

  • Elite Polish soldier #1 (Agl 8 - Bulk 4 = 4)

Play:
Elite Polish soldier #1 trots forward and takes cover behind the truck. He lines up with Logan and fires a burst. The range is 15m (Short).

[Fire burst at Logan  – Asset Level 15 – Impossible (x1/4) – Target Number 3 – Roll(s): 4,5,10,12,1] - One hit. The round hits Logan in the Abdomen for 5 + 1 (blunt trauma) = 6 points of damage. Logan has a scratch wound and is knocked down and panics.

Four rounds missed their target, two of which may hit targets in the danger zone. Currently the only target in the only target in the danger zone is Mitchell.

[Danger zone attacks from burst  – Asset Level 15 – Impossible (x1/4) – Target Number 3 – Roll(s): 16,5] - Both miss.

Initiative Step 4

Actions:
  • Veteran Polish soldier #2 will fire two bursts at Mitchell.
  • Veteran Polish soldier #3 will go into overwatch
  • Veteran Polish soldier #4 will also trot forward and take cover behind the trucks before firing a burst at Potato
  • Veteran Polish soldier #5 will throw a fragmentation grenade at Klasha.

Order of Actions:
  • Veteran Polish soldier #3 (Agl 7)
  • Veteran Polish soldier #5 (Agl 7)
  • Veteran Polish soldier #4 (Agl 7 - Bulk 4 = 3)
  • Veteran Polish soldier #2 (Agl 7 - Bulk 5 = 2)

Play:
Veteran Polish soldier #3 goes into overwatch and aims for the area between the HMMWV and Logan and Mitchell.

Veteran Polish soldier #5 throws a fragmentation grenade at Klasha, The range is 35m (Long).

[Throw fragmentation grenade – Asset Level 13 – Formidable (x1/2) – Target Number 6 – Roll(s): 8] - The grenade misses, bouncing off the door near Klasha, and deviates. Klasha, however, is still caught in the blast.

Klasha suffers one point of damage to all body hit locations due to concussion. Klasha is also within the primary burst radius and takes one fragment to the right leg for 8 points of damage. Klasha now has a slight wound on her right leg in addition to the slight wound on her head. She has a scratch wound on all other hit locations. She is knocked down but does not panic.

Potato is protected from the blast by the corner of the church. The 3/4-ton truck is in the blast radius but takes no fragments.

Veteran Polish soldier #4 fires a burst at Potato. The range is 30m (Short). The burst is reduced by 1 because of the effect of trotting on strength for recoil purposes.

[Fire burst at Potato  – Asset Level 13 – Impossible (x1/4) – Target Number 3 – Roll(s): 12,12,13,3] - One hit. The round hits Potato in the right leg for 6. He now has a slight wound and is knocked down. He also panics for one turn.

From his prone position, Veteran Polish soldier #2 fires two bursts at Mitchell. The range is 55m (Short).

[Fire burst at Mitchell  – Asset Level 13 – Impossible (x1/4) – Target Number 3 – Roll(s): 4,19,13,9,18,16,20] - No hits but the weapon jams after the seventh round. Mitchell does not panic.

Logan is in the danger zone for the burst.  The danger zone size three rounds.

[Danger zone attack on Logan  – Asset Level 13 – Impossible (x1/4) – Target Number 3 – Roll(s): 15,13,2] - One hit . Logan is hit in the left leg for 9, resulting in another scratch wound.

Initiative Step 3

Actions:
  • Experienced Polish soldier #6 fires two single rounds at Klasha
  • Experienced Polish soldier #7 runs forward and takes cover behind the burnt out trucks

Order of Actions:

  • Experienced Polish soldier #7 (Agl 6)
  • Experienced Polish soldier #6 (Agl 6 - Bulk 5 = 1)

Play:
Experienced Polish soldier #7 dashes forward and takes cover behind the trucks.

Experienced Polish soldier #6 fires at Klasha. The range is 45m (Short).

[Fire at Klasha  – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 13 – Roll(s): 20] - The weapon jams after the first round.

As a result of the ambush, Marshall, Robinson and Harris panic for two rounds. Griff and Macron do not panic.

0065 - Shootout on the Village Square - Preparation

0800 29 JUL 2000
=============

"When those ORMO guys showed up, there was a feeling about them that said trouble. You didn't know where or when it was going to start, but you knew it was coming. They rolled on up with their guns out and ready and they looked like they were ready for a fight at the drop of the hat. It might have gone OK but someone dropped the hat".

So, we have an ORMO patrol coming to check what is going on. From an observation point, let's consider what the patrol leader would know. The characters are there, alive and well, as is the OT-64. The trucks the mechanics were using are also there but they are burned out. There is no sign of the mechanic nor his crew.

So, now to see how the patrol will react. As always, let's ask the GME.

[GME: Will the patrol approach the town and contact the characters? - Chaos Rank 5 – Very Likely (85% - This is the reason they are here in the first place) - 36% - Yes] - Yep, they are going to roll into town and ask some questions.

[GME: Will they try to surprise the characters? - Chaos Rank 5 – 50/50 (50% - This could go either way and I do not want to influence the decision. Let fate decide) - 3% - Exceptional Yes] - Oh they are sneaky ones, aren't they.

[GME: Will the patrol attempt to capture everyone? - Chaos Rank 5 – 50/50 (50% - Again, let the dice roll as they may) - 93% - Exceptional No] - Oh oh.

Now that is not good. They want to take the characters by surprise but have no intention of capturing everyone. That would mean either a) they will try to surprise someone alone or b) they will shoot first and hope to capture someone when the smoke clears. I wonder which it will be. If we remember the motivation of the patrol leader, it is less likely to be option a.

Pompous: The NPC is arrogant, conceited, and pompous in his dealings with others. He considers himself clearly superior to everyone around him.

Very violent: The NPC loves a good fight and either is or wants to be a warrior.

Still, let's ask the GME. There is always a chance.

[GME: Will the patrol attempt option A? - Chaos Rank 5 – Unlikely (35%) - 93% - No] - Which leaves option b.

So, the plan is sneak into town, shoot the crap out of everything and every one and question the survivors. Seems simple enough.

0063 - Post-Battle Recovery and Record-Keeping

1030 26 JUL 2000
=============

Logan has his work cut out for him. He has the following wounds to treat:

Griffin
• Abdomen: Scratch wound
• Right Leg: Serious Wound
• Left Leg: Slight Wound

Harris
• Head: Serious Wound

Mitchell
• Left Arm: Scratch Wound

Potato
• Head: Scratch Wound
• Chest: Scratch Wound
• Abdomen: Scratch Wound
• Right Arm: Scratch Wound
• Right Leg: Scratch Wound
• Left Leg: Scratch Wound

Robinson
• Head: Serious Wound

Macron
• Left Arm: Scratch Wound
• Left Leg: Scratch Wound

Klasha
• Head: Serious Wound
• Right Leg: Scratch Wound
• Left Leg: Scratch Wound

Logan treats those with the serious wounds first. He applies all his medical skill to help with their recovery.  He has a doctor's medical kit.

[Perform first aid on Griffin – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 – Roll(s): 8] - Success.
[Perform first aid on Harris – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 – Roll(s): 12] - Success.
[Perform first aid on Robinson – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 – Roll(s): 2] - Success.
[Perform first aid on Klasha – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 – Roll(s): 13] - Success.

The group will heal faster as a result of his work but they will still need two day. Luckily no one is planning on going anywhere at the moment.

Logan also treats each of the wounded with antibiotics. Still there is a chance of infection. Most of them have no infection. The exception being Robinson whose head wound becomes infected. Makes you wonder what the primitives dipped their spears in.

After everyone is patched up, it is time to look at the ammo they used. The characters draw from their stocks to replace:

• 5.56mm N: 49
• 7.62mm N: 17
• 9mm P: 10
• 40mm HEDP: 1
• Frag Grenade: 1
• 5.45mm B: 35

The group makes camp for the night, with those not seriously wounded taking turns at guard. The group consumes 27kg of wild food in a quiet meal within the confines of the ruined church. The turn on the field cookers so everyone can have a warm meal (8l of ethanol consumed).

Each character receives one Initiative experience point.

0800 27 JUL 2000
=============
The next day dawns bright and early. The team decide to take it easy. The only issue of the day is the bodies of the primitives, which they dump back in the sewers, resulting in a period of hard work for the crew.

Encounter (Territory: Organized, Terrain: Clear) - None.

Logan takes are of wounded, spending 4.5 hours tending their wounds. He may try to treat the infection that Robinson has. Since he used antibiotics before, the task is Average

[Treat Infection – Asset Level 17 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 (20 always fails) – Roll(s): 7] - Success.

The infection is treated but Robinson will lose the extra two days of healing, meaning he will need will need four days to go to the slight wound level. At the end of the day, the characters recover from their scratch and slight wounds and prepare another hot meal. (27kg of wild food and 8l of ethanol).

0800 28 JUL 2000
=============

The following morning, Mitchell and Potato assess the condition of the OT-64. A lot of work has been done it but the work seems to have been interrupted. To assess the true nature of the damage to the vehicle and its current status, we will ask the GME.

[GME: Has the vehicle been completely repaired – Chaos Rank 5 – 50/50 (50%) - 31% - Yes]

[GME: Does the vehicle have fuel – Chaos Rank 5 – Unlikely (35%) - 50% - No]

[GME: Does the vehicle have ammunition – Chaos Rank 5 – Very unlikely (25%) - 27% - No] -- Got real close on that one.

Knowing what we know, let's look at the circumstances, the vehicle is repaired but has no fuel or ammunition. The characters do not have ammunition but do have fuel. The temptation is great to just take the vehicle and abandon one of the others. They are still smarting from their run-in with the BTR and the HMMWV has a damaged suspension.

Encounter (Territory: Organized, Terrain: Clear) - None.

As the group thinks about the situation, Logan takes cares of the wounded and another hot meal is consumed. (27kg of wild food and 8l of ethanol).

0800 29 JUL 2000
=============
At this point, the characters agreed to mission four days ago. It is likely that the town leaders might have gotten a bit worried about their investment. The mechanic the characters were sent to rescue has been gone even longer. Maybe the GME knows how the town council will proceed.

[GME: Will the town council send another rescue party? - Chaos Rank 5 – Unlikely (35%)  - 3% - Exceptional Yes] - Oh they are definitely going to send someone and it will not just be a couple farmers with shotguns.

[GME: Could the convince the Soviets to assist? - Chaos Rank 5 - 50/50 (50% - seeing as the Soviets are actively hunting survivors, the town council may be able to point the Soviets in the right direction)  - 64% - No] - No Soviets, meaning they still want to keep the whole deal under wraps. It would have to be a patrol from the ORMO then.

Time to roll up a patrol:

1030 26 JUL 2000
=============
"At the end, there were two of them left. They did not look like a threat anymore, just a two souls lost on the waves of the Last War. They were beyond help and the only solace we could offer was to put them down. There was not recoverin' from what they had. The bulb was burned out up there."

0061 - Recovering the OT-64 - Turn 10

1030 26 JUL 2000
=============

"It was like puttin' down rabid dogs. You need to put 'em down quick and make sure that they stayed that way. Just wingin' 'em just made 'em mad. A lot of lead was flyin' but we were close to eliminating the threat. You have to keep remindin' yourself that they were long gone beyond what we called human. Just keep sayin' to yourself over and over."

The team is out of danger. Three primitives remain but two are wounded. Still, as the rules for the encounter dictate, they will just keep coming until they cannot move anymore.

Initiative Step 5

Actions:
  • Potato will bat away the spear and attempt another aimed strike at the primitives head.

Order of Actions:
  • Potato (Agl 4)

Play:
Potato attempts an aimed strike at the head of the Novice Polish primitive #11.

[Aimed strike at the primitive's head – Asset Level 15 – Formidable (x1/2) – Target Number 7 – Roll(s): 16] - As if reading Potato's intention, the primitive dodges the attack, probably saving his life.

  • Harris (Agl 5)
  • Klasha (Agl 4)

Play:
Harris drops prone and guards the flank with his L7.

Klasha remains in the vehicle, awaiting the outcome.

At the end of the round two primitives remain, both of which have been shot off their feet. One could count it as a victory if there were not so many people bleeding.

0059 - Recovering the OT-64 - Turn 9

1030 26 JUL 2000
=============

"The tide had turned. We were  pushin' 'em back and workin' on solvin' the problem for good. A lot of blood had been spilled but it is not like we wanted that. They decided to jump us and it was a bad decision. Not a lot of people left in the world but these crazies were definitely not contributin' to the GDP, that is for sure. Still, what a waste."

At the start of the turn it is the nine characters against the remaining seven primitives. Most every one is bleeding from at least one wound, with the exception of Marshall and Logan as well as two of the primitives. Number 15 is smack dab in the middle and has not been hit yet. That is really lucky.

Initiative Step 5

Actions:
  • Potato got winged again and decides for an aimed strike at the primitive's head.

Order of Actions:

  • Potato (Agl 4)

Play:

Potato attempts to an aimed strike at the head.

[Aimed strike at Veteran Polish primitive #2's head – Asset Level 15 – Formidable (x1/2) – Target Number 7 – Roll(s): 1] - Hit. Potato grabs the head of the primitive and begins to squeeze.

The primitive elects to block.

[Block aimed strike – Asset Level 13 – Formidable (x1/2) – Target Number 6 – Roll(s): 16] - Miss. The primitive tries to break free but cannot block the attack.

The damage is 6×2 = 12 and the quick kill roll is 7, resulting in the untimely death of the primitive.

Mitchell fires twice at the primitive. The range is Close.

[Shoot twice at Novice Polish primitive #18 – Asset Level 7 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot at close range) – Target Number 7, 5 on the second shot due to recoil – Roll(s): 11,2] - One hit. Mitchell hits the primitive in the abdomen for 8 points of damage. The primitive remains knocked down and will miss his turn again this round.

Macron fires again at Novice Polish primitive #12. The range is Close.

[Shoot Novice Polish primitive #12 three times – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1 - Quick shot at close range) – Target Number 13, 12 on the last shot due to recoil – Roll(s): 3,4,1] - Three hits, including two outstanding successes. Macron also hits the primitive in the right arm twice. Both hits are outstanding successes for 8 x 2 = 16 and 5 x 2 = 10 for a total of 28 points. The other round hits the primitive in the left leg for 10 points of damage. The primitive is truly dead, as he only had 8 points of damage prior to the turn.

  • Klasha (Agl 4)

Play:

[Attack Potato with a spear – Asset Level 9 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 9 – Roll(s): 6] - Hit. Potato is hit in the chest. The damage is 6 + 3 (1/2 STR) = 9. Potato's vest absorbs 2 (AV 1 x 2) points of damage, leaving 7. The "quick kill" roll is 3, resulting in double damage, leaving Potato with a total of 14. Potato is knocked down but being the refrigerator that he his, he still only has a scratch wound.

Novice Polish primitive #20 continues to reload his crossbow.

Harris moves farther east.

Klasha remains in the HMMWV and presses a bandage to her wounds.

The characters have done away with a few more primitives and have a good chance of surviving.

0058 - Recovering the OT-64 - Turn 8

1030 26 JUL 2000
=============
"I popped the one crazy twice and apparently his body had had enough, even if he hadn't. He didn't get back up and bled out there. I stayed for a bit just to be sure.

Another grenade went off somewhere and I assumed it was our guys since the crazies had not had any up to now, but you never know do you? We had to stop them anyway we could. They were really hyped up on something and were a lot tougher than their emaciated bodies led you to believe. Head shots would kill 'em, that was true, but that is true of everyone. Still, I felt like I was stuck in a zombie movie."

Note: one of the things that always strikes me in T2K is how fast and deadly combat is. Look at the current combat. We have a close quarters battle involving 31 people. After 35 seconds, or 7 turns, there are 14 dead and 13 wounded (including the characters) with only 4 that have escaped injury up to now. Combat is fast and hard and you REALLY need to go prone or get some hard cover. That being said, back to our heroes, as they are the focus of this experiment.

Initiative Step 5

Actions:
  • Potato will rush the primitive with the M9. Apparently he is tired of getting shot.

Order of Actions:

  • Mitchell will fire twice at Novice Polish primitive #18

Order of Actions:
