Apparently Robinson needs some more rest. The failed roll does not mean that he dies but rather that he is not revived with any points of hit capacity. He will recover one point at the end of the shift anyway, even without assistance. Since we combined the rolls for infection, he will have to make a roll for infection at the end of the shift. We will combine the rolls and do those at the end.

 

For the rest, we do not need to make the rolls for them being incapacitated but rather to see if they can avoid infection. It is pretty much the same roll but Logan cannot use his Combat Medic specialty here, as they are not incapacitated.

It may seem like a lot, but to be fair, there were 18 of them. The lack of food and medical supplies probably explains their general desperate stance at the beginning of the fight. Now, with the major troublemaker (Straggler #1-1), the others might see the error of their ways and agree to join up with the Cav Troopers. Klasha will try to persuade them.

 

She explains that what happened was avoidable and encounters in the future will only get harder and some of the people they run into may not be as forgiving as the group. The Cav troopers offer safety and security in their ranks. Food and warm beds to boot.

Wow, these guys are hard-headed. It takes a lot of stupidity to get your butts handed to you and STILL not agree to something reasonable. Klasha will push the roll, as the alternative means the team needs to get rid of these guys somehow. She cannot re-roll the 1, so it stays and we re-roll one D12 and rolls yet another 1, resulting in a mishap. Guess they are really, really sore losers. In addition, Klasha suffers a point of Stress because she failed and EMP task during the push. As they are all restrained or wounded, I do not think that they are really able to become violent. They will maintain a grudge so and that may be important.

 

All of those that think the team will now just off the group and be done with it will be disappointed. I am not really for the murder-hobo play style (marauders generally being the exception) and then there is the aspect of character development. I like the aspect of the morale code that the v4 brings with it and I generally try to have the characters follow that code. Logan has the need to help everyone he can and is certainly not going to stand by and just let the guys he just patched up get shot to pieces.

 

The only solution is to let them go their own way, knowing full well we may see them again. What we are not going to do is let them leave with all the hardware, because that would just be stupid. On the other, we cannot leave them defenseless, so the team will have to leave them something. We can probably leave them with the civilian weapons and ammo as well as a very stern warning to not be seen around these parts again.

Probably more than we should have but leaving them without anything is just sentencing them to death in the world they live in.

 

It would be worth adding this group to our list of NPCs. The GME tracks many aspects of the game using lists for thinks like threads and characters (NPCs and PCs are meant here). It would also help to have a motivation for the new leader. Two card draws later and we come up with:

 

  • Primary Motivation - Nine of Clubs: Very Violent (The NPC loves a good fight and either is or wants to be a warrior)
  • Secondary Motivation - Queen of Spades: Ruthless (The NPC will let nothing stand in his way in achieving any goal and feels total disregard for the needs of others. The NPC can appear to be considerate, generous, loyal, or anything else which serves his purpose, but he actually feels nothing)

 

Somehow this guy is worse than the last guy we saw. The fact that he is ruthless is interesting, meaning his goal might just be do destroy the characters. This will make for an interesting story element.

 

After a few randomly generated name and some reassigning of equipment, the NPC group The Stragglers takes shape:

This group met and engaged the characters after an unsuccessful attempt to convince the group to join the cantonment. The Stragglers were defeated and offered, once again, the chance to join the cantonment, which they refused and promised revenge on the characters. The characters took all their military-grade equipment and set the group free with a warning never to be seen around the area again.
