0015 - Scene III – Clearing the Mines (1500 21 JUL 2000) – Part IV

Now that the unpleasantness is out of the way. The marauders are on the other side of the field and cannot reach the characters. There is a good chance that they will slip away (and the characters have bigger problems and no wish to stop them) or they will bleed out before the characters reach them. Just to be sure, we can ask the GME.
The current chaos rank is still 6, as the scene has not played out yet.

GME Question: Will the marauders attempt to slip way? - Very Likely – Chaos Rank 6 (90% chance of yes) – 43 – Yes.

The marauders will be long gone by the time the characters get there. Most are wounded and maybe they left their dead comrades behind.

GME Question: Did the marauders leave their dead? - Somewhat Likely – Chaos Rank 6 (59% chance of yes) – 35 – Yes.

The three dead remain on the field. That is the kind of comrades you do not want to have.

Still, the group has wounded itself that needs to be cared for. Harris took two rounds, one to the chest, one to the abdomen. Klasha took a round to the head and was still stunned at the end of last round.

Logan performs first aid on both Harris and Klasha.
[Perform first aid on Klasha – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 - Roll(s): 20] – A failure but not a bad one. Still, it will slow the healing process and may leave a scar.
[Perform first aid on Harris (Chest) – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 - Roll(s): 7] – Pass – no problems here.
[Perform first aid on Harris (Abdomen) – Asset Level 17 – Difficult (x1) – Target Number 17 - Roll(s): 20] – A failure but not a bad one. Still, it will slow the healing rocess.

Now we need to check for infection. The chances are 1-2 for Klasha and Harris’ abdomen and 1 for Harris’ chest. The rolls are: 4,14,9. No infection will occur.

Now that Harris is healed up, he can begin to mark and clear the mines. First, Harris has to find the first strip. The field is not camouflaged, as the mines are hidden in the plowed section.

[Detect minefield #1 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 5] – Outstanding success.

Harris will mark and clear two 5m wide paths through the minefield.

[Mark path #1 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 11] – Success.
[Mark path #2 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 6] – Outstanding Success.

A roll to check if there is a mine in the square is its density (.1) * Vehicle Modifier (.5) = 0.05 rounded up to .1 or 10%. The roll is 63, indicating no mine is present. The one that was was most likely set off by the truck.
On to the next field.

[Detect minefield #1 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 7] – Success.

Harris will mark and clear two 5m wide paths through the minefield.

[Mark path #1 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 1] – Outstanding Success.
[Mark path #2 – Asset Level 13 – Average (x2) – Target Number 19 - Roll(s): 4] – Outstanding Success.

A roll to check if there is a mine in the square is its density (.2) * Vehicle Modifier (.5) = 0.1 or 10%. The roll Is 24, indicating no mine is present.

Rather an anti-climax, following the fight with the marauders. Still, I am sure the characters would rather be bored after the last few days.

The group has recovered 5 trucks. They will proceed in convoy back to Sieradz. The convoy order will be:
  • Jerry (driven by Mitchell with Harris in the commander’s seat)
  • Truck #2 (driven by Griffin)
  • Truck #3 (driven by Potato)
  • Truck #4 (driven by Marshall)
  • Truck # 5 (driven by Macron)
  • Truck #6 (driven by Robinson)
  • Bud (driven by Logan and with Klasha in the back)
The group is spread thin, but that cannot be helped. As the group prepares to return to Sieradz, the scene ends. Despite the two wounded PC, the group had the scene under control. The combat lasted 10 seconds and Harris did an amazing job clearing them mines, with four outstanding successes. The Chaos Rank will then drop to 5.
