BE HONEST TO YOURSELF!
Of course, since there is no GM (or referee or whatever you wish to call the master of disaster), there is always the temptation to "cheat". Fudge a die roll here, increase the loot there by something you really need, etc. Don't do it.
In the short term, you may have a good feeling about it, but like cheating in "real life" roleplaying, you are really taking the opprotunity for some great roleplaying later. The gaming should be fun and have an element of suspense. If you make it easy on yourself, you remove the suspense from your game and you will quickly tire of it.
