0005h - Ruined Village – 1120 19 JUL 2000



The group encounter a ruined village. The encounter distance is 120m. Since they have not found a derelict, the group decide to investigate the village on the odd chance that there is something useful.

Also searching the ruined village is a group of marauders. The marauders detect the characters but the characters do not detect the marauders. The marauders decide to let the characters get closer until they are within 70m, as this will be within medium range of most of their weapons.

Turn 1

Distance 110m – Detection roll failed

Turn 2

Distance 100m – Detection roll failed

Turn 3

Distance 90m – Detection roll failed

Turn 4

Distance 80m – Detection roll passed. The group notice the marauders. Combat begins and neither group is surprised.


Turn 5 – Initiative 5

Griffin drops prone and fires one quick shot at Novice marauder #0-3 lying on a roof to the north. The NPC is prone. The range is 75m (Short) and the difficulty level is Average (x2). Griff has a SAR asset of 12. The target number is 16 or less. The roll is a 1, outstanding success. The hit location is right arm for 8x2 (outstanding success) or 16 points of damage. The marauder is wounded and his initiative reduced to 0, taking him out of the fight.


Turn 5 – Initiative 4

Mitchell drops prone and fires her 203 at the Veteran marauder #0-1 on their right with the machinegun. The range is 65m (Short) and the difficulty level Average (x2). Mitchell has a grenade launcher asset of 4, resulting in a target number of 8. The roll is a 5, hit.

Veteran marauder #0-1 is in the primary blast zone. The marauder receives 13 points of concussion damage. Although he is within the primary blast radius, he does not receive any fragments. There is no quick kill, but his initiative is reduced to 3 and he will lose his next action.


Turn 5 – Initiative 3

Harris drops prone and fires his 203 at Experienced marauder #0-2. The range is 70m (Short) and the difficulty level is Average (x2). Harris has a grenade launcher asset of 8, giving a target number of 16. The roll is 2 (outstanding success).

Both Experienced marauder #0-2 and Novice marauder #0-3 are both within the first 10m square and are subject to concussion. Experienced marauder #0-2 take 7 points of concussion damage and Novice marauder #0-3 takes 15 points of damage.

Both marauders are also within the primary blast radius. Experienced marauder #0-2 takes 5 fragments for a total of 37 points of damage, killing him. Novice marauder #0-3 takes 1 fragment to the leg for 3 points of damage.

The team has successfully avoided the ambush and turned the tides on the attackers. One is dead and both of the remaining marauders are wounded. One is wounded enough to take him out of the fight.

Turn 6 – Initiative 5

Griff takes another shot at Veteran marauder #0-1 (75m – Short – Average (x2) – 12 – 8 [Hit] – Abdomen [Miss – prone target – front shot]) but misses.

Turn 6 – Initiative 4

Mitchell fires 2 rounds at Veteran marauder #0-1. The second round has the hit number reduced by 2 due to recoil. (65m – Medium – Difficult (x1) – 7 – 1 [Hit], 18 [Miss] – Right Leg [Miss – prone target – front shot])

Turn 6 – Initiative 3

Harris fires 3 rounds at Veteran marauder #0-1. The third round has the hit number reduced by 1 due to recoil. (70m – Medium – Difficult (x1) – 13 – 9 [Hit], 4 [Hit], 11 [Hit] – Chest [6], Abdomen [Miss – prone target – front shot], Left Leg [Miss – prone target – front shot]). The marauder is hit but not knocked down.

Veteran marauder #0-1 fires two, 10 round bursts at the Harris. The second burst size will be reduced to 8 due to recoil.
