0024 - Plot line – Let the Environment Kill Them – Part V (1500 22 JUL 2000)

Not having any night vision equipment and not much in the way of equipment at all, the characters need to make a daylight raid.

The plan is rather simple: Griff and Harris will fire on the guards, which will be the signal for the rest of the group to rush the door. They will collect weapons as they go. Potato will lead the assault group.

The group is stretched a little thin but they all have at least scratch wounds and Griff and Harris both have slight wounds, with Harris’ wound on the verge of becoming serious. No time for him to kick in doors.

The snipers are approximately 30m from their targets, with the assault group in an alley 20m from the door.

Time to give the PCs a chance to detect the ambush. The experienced guard has an asset level of 11. The asset is modified by -2 (number of members in own group) and +6 (number of members in the other group) for a total of 15.

Just before Griff and Harris take their shots, the guard on the L7 sees a glint in the window and shouts a warning. Things got real.

The characters are assumed to have been aiming.

Turn 1 – Initiative 5

Actions:
  • Seeing the game is up, Potato fires quick two rounds at the guard by the door.
  • Robinson rushes the truck and boards it
Order of Actions:
  • Robinson (Agl 7)
  • Potato (Agl 4 - Bulk 5 = -1)
Play:
Robinson rushes the truck as the guard swivels the machinegun in his direction.

Potato fire two shots at the guard by the door. The range is 20m (Short)

[Quick shots at the door guard – Asset Level 16 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot, short range) – Target Number 16 - Roll(s): 4, 19] – Hit (outstanding success), Miss

The round hits the guard in the left leg for 15 x 2 = 30 points of damage. The guard is seriously wounded and his initiative is reduced to 3, taking him out of the fight.

Turn 1 – Initiative 4

Actions:
  • Griff takes the shot on the guard in the truck. He is protected from the abdomen down by sandbags.
  • Macron rushes to grab the shotgun from the fallen guard.
Order of Actions:
  • Macron (Agl 4)
  • Griff (Agl 6 - Bulk 6 = 0)
Play:
Macron runs to the fallen guard and snatches up his shotgun. He has 5 rounds of shot shells in the tube.
Griff fires an aimed shot at the head of the guard in the truck. The will also fire one quick shot at the target. The range is 30m (Short)

[Aimed Shot at the guard’s head – Asset Level 12 – Difficult (x1 – Called shot at short range) – Target Number 12 - Roll(s): 7] – Hit

The round hits the guard in the head. He is not wearing a helmet. The round causes 17 points of damage and results in a quick kill. The second round misses.

Turn 1 – Initiative 2

Actions:
  • Missing a target, as the door guard was dropped by Potato, Harris goes into overwatch.
  • Logan rushes to board the truck in order to search the other guard for weapons
Order of Actions:
  • Logan (Agl 5)
  • Harris (Agl 5 - Bulk 5 = 0)
Play:
Logan rushes forward and boards the truck.

Harris goes into overwatch, watching the south side of the street.

At the end of the round, the guards have one KIA and one MIA. They are getting close to leaving town but not quite there yet.

Turn 2 – Initiative 5

Actions:
  • Potato rushes toward the door and takes cover on the side of the door
  • Robinson grabs the L7 and then moves to cover the door
  • Elite guard #1-1 rushes out the door and fires at Macron
Order of Actions:
  • Elite guard #1-1 (Agl 8 – Bulk 1 = 7)
  • Potato (Agl 4)
  • Robinson (Agl 7)
Play:
Elite guard #1-1 burst from the door and fires three rounds at Macron. The last round will have a modifier of -1 due to recoil.

[Quick shots at Macron – Asset Level 15 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot at short range) – Target Number 15 (14 for the third round) - Roll(s): 19, 4, 2 ] – Miss, Hit (Outstanding Success), Hit (Outstanding Success)

Maron takes one round to the head (2 x 2 = 4) and one to the chest (5 x 2 = 10). His head wound is a slight wound and his chest wound becomes a slight wound. Macron is knocked down but not stunned.

Robinson grabs the L7 just as gunshots sound behind him. He turns in time to see Macron go down.

Potato rushes forward just as the guard pops Macron. The stops as the edge of the door.

Turn 2 – Initiative 4

Actions:
  • Griff will fire two quick shots at Elite guard #1-1
  • Veteran guard #1-2 will exit the house and fire two rounds at Robinson
Order of Actions:
  • Veteran guard #1-2 (Agl 7 – Bulk 1 = 6)
  • Griff (Agl 6 - Bulk 6 = 0)
Play:
Veteran guard #1-2 leaves the building and fires two quick shots from his M1911A1 10mm at Robinson. The range is short and Robinson is protected from the abdomen down by sandbags.

[Quick shots at Robinson – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot at short range) – Target Number 13 - Roll(s): 4, 15] – Hit, Miss

There is one possible hit on Robinson but the round hits the sandbag (Right Leg).

Griff fires two quick rounds at Elite guard #1-1. The range is short.

[Quick shots at Elite guard #1-1 – Asset Level 12 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot at short range) – Target Number 12 (10 for the second round due to recoil) - Roll(s): 7, 4] – Hit, Hit

The rounds hit Elite guard #1-1 in the Abdomen (5) for 7 + 2 (blunt trauma from his vest) = 9 points of damage and Left Leg (10) for 16 points of damage, for a total of 25. Elite guard #1-1 is knocked down and seriously wounded, reducing his initiative to 2.

Turn 2 – Initiative 4

Actions:
  • Logan grabs up a .38 Special Snubnose from the fallen guard on the truck
  • Harris leaves overwatch and fires one round at Veteran guard #1-2
Order of Actions:
  • Logan (Agl 5)
  • Harris (Agl 5 - Bulk 5 = 0)
Play:
Logan snatches up a .38 Special Snubnose and takes cover behind the side of the truck.
Harris fires a quick shot at Veteran guard #1-2. The range is short.

[Quick shots at Veteran guard #1-2 – Asset Level 13 – Difficult (x1 – Quick shot at short range) – Target Number 13 - Roll(s): 6] – Hit

The round hits he guard in the Abdomen (6). He takes 11 points of damage and is knocked down.

As the last man goes down, the fight leaves the guards. Ten second have passed and 63% of the guards are casualties with 1 KIA and 3 WIA. The two wounded guards by the door that may have wanted to put up a fight find themselves staring down the barrel of a L7. The decide against fighting.

The remaining guards also decide not to fight and slip out of the back of the hotel. Combat has ended.
